Milestones are one of my favorite things, and today, I’m renewing my intentions in celebration of an important milestone – 23 years of my life. Another milestone that’s coming up next week is my Bullet Journal anniversary (yes, I’m that #plannernerd), and in celebration of it, I’m giving away some of my favorite journaling supplies to you guys – my readers!
Let’s dive into the details, shall we?
For a long time, I’d been told that celebrating anything other than religious festivals is a form of … mild blasphemy, I guess? Up until my 18th birthday, I hadn’t done anything special, because I hadn’t challenged the information I was given.
Earlier that year I had done some research on the origin of birthdays – which we were told were non-Muslim religious festivals – and I came to the conclusion that certain well-known practices, such as blowing out the candles on your birthday cake, are the ones associated with non-Muslim beliefs, while simply celebrating your birthday was something that plenty of cultures did, as a rite of passage. Plus, self-reflection is an important part of it, as well as being an important part of Islam.
So I took up a new tradition: reflecting on my past year and renewing my intentions for the upcoming one every September. Now, I won’t bore you with the details of my reflection, but in the spirit of sharing, I’ll tell you a little about intention renewal.
I’m a planner at heart. I read Sean Covey’s 7 Habits for Effective Teenagers when I was 15 or 16 and asked for a Seven Habits organizer immediately. The minute I got one, I was furiously planning my life. I was disenchanted by the organizer after a while, though, because even though I’m a planner, I most often don’t tend to stick to the plan. Especially not over the long term.
Things happened, but I still kept making plans. And lists. I don’t know when it is that I discovered lists for future plans, but I made a lot of them. Some I got rid of, but some I kept. Recently, I discovered such a list, in which I had made 5-year, 7-year, and 10-year plans when I was 17. Granted, I’d forgotten all about them once my goals and life vision had shifted onto another path, but rediscovering them was a great reminder of the importance of renewing intentions, because while some goals were no longer suitable, some were even less crazy and more achievable than they were when I wrote them down.
Today, I just want to renew my intentions surrounding this blog. I’ve failed you guys, my readers, a lot. I made promises to write every Tuesday and Saturday, but that doesn’t keep happening consistently. For example, I was supposed to share my Bullet Journal story about 5 weeks ago, in anticipation of this post and giveaway, but that hasn’t happened yet (it’s still a WIP post). I’m trying to catch up with the posts I’d planned and missed, but that’s going quite slow.
I haven’t given up, so expect a few more frequent posts in the upcoming days, covering all the ones I missed. The second thing I want to commit to today is more giveaways in the upcoming year. I don’t know about you guys, but I think a giveaway per quarter is good? Let me know in the comments if you’re interested! I’d like to do different giveaways, not just journaling ones. This is just the first of many, in-sha Allah (God willing).
Now for the most exciting part of this post: the journaling supplies giveaway. We will have three lucky winners this time, each of whom will receive one of the following:
- An A5 Leuchtturm 1917 notebook in the color and layout of their choice
- An AlhamdulillahFor series journal
- A set of 20 Staedtler Fineliners
Anyone who knows me well enough knows that I consider the A5 Leuchtturm and Staedtler Fineliners the ultimate notebook and pens for journaling. I even gave up using my mechanical pencil after being enchanted by these pens! As for the notebook, there aren’t words that would suffice to describe the quality of the paper.
I haven’t tried the AlhamdulillahFor series journal yet, though I did download the digital version and I’m looking forward to printing it out in the next couple of days. I’ve heard raving reviews about it, so I’m popping it in this giveaway.
